Book Reviews - what's it all about?

A large part of what I want to do with this blog is reviewing. I love reading other peoples reviews and I think with all the reading I've done in the past year – I really should be doing something with that. When I have done reviews in the past I have always struggled with the rating system I've used. I find a 5 star system frustrating because there are so many books that I've rated as 5 stars, but more are more 5 stars than others.

How am I rating?

In my reading challenge I'll be sticking with a simple 5 star rating. This will link with my Goodreads challenge and rating. But, in my more details reviews I will be using a 5 star+ rating system. That means I will be breaking down books by the numbered rating e.g 4 stars and it can either be a -, + or level. For example, I rated One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus as 5 Stars. I also rated The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid as 5 Stars. But I loved TSHoEH so much it will likely be a lifelong favourite so I would say it is 5Star+, whereas OoUiL was a great read, definitely worth 5 stars but maybe not an all time favourite – I would say that is 5Star- or 5Star. With me?

What will I be reviewing?

At the moment I'll be looking at reviewing the books I have read over the past year. In the past I have also reviewed adaptations of books. This is potentially something I could do again.

I'll be looking at different parts of the story from the plot to the characters, from the setting to the pace. Then using that as a basis for my review. I want to use detail so I will probably include spoilers.

I look forward to sharing this with you.
